The Damned

The Damned at House of Blues

Why see The Damned?

Britain's First Punk Band

Leading the British punk rock revolution that would also birth The Sex Pistols and The Clash, The Damned released their debut single 'New Rose' in 1976. Their debut album, Damned Damned Damned, a full-throttle assault of poppy hooks and machine gun riffage, followed soon after and their place in the punk history books was assured.

While they may have blazed a path for all the snotty, anarchic bands that followed in their wake, The Damned always had a streak of dark theatricality to their music, something they fully embraced late on in their career as goth rock pioneers.

So Damned Good!

Forget age, time is a concept. The Damned proved that true with a stellar set to a capacity crowd in the classic Seattle Showbox on a Thursday night. The energy was palable and the band was in firm control as they laid out songs covering 2 decades of work. The 4 core members (and excellent keyboard support) showed this band has no musical weak spots. Classic punk anthems mixed with 80s influenced synthetic created unique energy and moods all tied together by a group absolutely confidence to deliver an amazing show. Dave Vanian's vocals actually seem better now than ever and Capt Sensible squeezed every perfect note and noise from his instrument. I was blown away by Rat Scabies incredible drumming throughout the entire set. Would stand in line for hours to see them tomorrow if I had the option. ... Read more
